Go Brush Your Teeth! Tips to Get Your Kids to Brush

As parents, you want your kid to be happy and healthy. Starting them off early with healthy dental habits is an important part of this! Dr. Stacy Kirner Felix encourages all parents to use positive reinforcement to help create healthy habits that will last your child for a lifetime. Here are a few tips to get your kids to brush their teeth:

Start Early

The sooner that you begin introducing your child to a toothbrush and healthy dental habits, the better.

Show and Tell

Set an example of carefully brushing and let them practice on their stuffed animals.

Go Shopping

Let them pick their own toothbrush and toothpaste. There are many colors and character-themed toothbrushes. Your kid is sure to find one that makes him or her smile. If mint is too strong of a flavor for your kiddo, encourage them to try another variety instead! Cinnamon, lemon, strawberry…one of these might suit their young tastebuds. Try the orange flavored kids toothpaste above by Jason, available on Just Act Natural.

Sing a Song!

It should take at least two minutes to brush. Find a song that fits that time span and go for it. Try singing the ABC’s twice. Or make up a song of your own!

Make it a Game

Who can make the most bubbles when they brush? (Don’t worry about the mess. It cleans up easily!)

Track Progress

Create a sticker chart and keep track of brushing twice a day, with special stickers for flossing.

There’s an app for that!

Older kids can use a variety of smartphone apps to make their brushing experience more fun.
