Veneers

What are veneers?

A veneer is a thin layering that is used to create the appearance of healthy, natural-looking teeth. Veneers get bonded over teeth that are flawed and give you a white, attractive smile.

They are typically made out of porcelain since it’s a strong, durable material that can match the appearance of natural teeth. Veneers can fix your smile without sacrificing functions like chewing or speaking.

Veneers are less intrusive than braces, which are used for straightening crooked teeth, or restorative options like crowns used to fix damaged teeth. A cheaper option, veneers still provide cosmetic benefits and correct issues like discoloration, chips, and fractures.

How do veneers work?

When you come to Dr. Felix’s office, she takes impressions of your mouth that she uses to fit you with your veneers. Those impressions are sent off to a dental lab where your veneers are custom-made to fit snugly over your teeth and match their natural shade.

When you come in for a second appointment, Dr. Felix bonds your new veneers over your teeth with strong adhesive. Veneers are fixed prosthetics and aren’t removable like dentures. After Dr. Felix places your veneers, she monitors you for the first weeks and months to make sure you adjust well to them. She will likely schedule a follow-up appointment to evaluate your progress.

How do I care for my veneers?

Make sure to brush your veneers at least twice per day and floss daily. With front veneers, try to avoid chewing ice or eating hard foods like certain nuts or hard candies. This can help prevent your veneers from cracking.

How long do veneers last?

If cared for properly, your veneers should last for at least 10 years without breaking or chipping. In many cases, they can last much longer. It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing, as well as keeping your regular appointments for checkups and professional cleanings. This helps ensure your veneers last as long as possible.
